Hawthorn House is a large, detached building on the outskirts of Strensall, an attractive village within easy access of York City. The property has recently been completely upgraded and provides en-suite facilities for all rooms.

Strensall lies on the banks of the Foss River, just north of York. With a population of little over 4000, it provides a peaceful place to live, within a short distance of York City.

Our Service

At Hawthorn House, all clients receive a personal care plan to suit their individual needs. We encourage people to make decisions and express their feelings and emotions. Clients are helped to maintain their independence through their care plan and we support their wishes to privacy and dignity. Above all, we respect our clients' rights to their beliefs and views.

By getting to know the individuals that we care for, we aim to understand the causes behind any behavioural issues. It is imperative to respond in a supportive and therapeutic way that minimises the need for physical intervention. The experienced employees are familiar with possible causes of these problems and are fully trained in diversionary and de-escalating techniques.

Hawthorn House Facilities

Our philosophy of helping clients to reach their full potential and maximise personal growth forms the basis to our structured activity programmes. Activities include education, horse riding, day trips, gym, swimming, regular visits to local cinemas, shops, public houses, restaurants, leisure centres and museums. Clients are also treated to bus and boat tours, and encouraged to help run the home.

Working closely with Milewood staff, community nurses offer follow-up support for additional health needs and carry out medical reviews. Individuals have access to local health services including opticians, dentists and chiropodists. Best of all, our clients enjoy private, individually decorated rooms.
